Karpov Yuri Nikolaevich was born in Moscow in September in 1977. After finishing his secondary school he went to a trade College, in Moscow. There he gained the profession of Conservator Restorer of Wooden Architecture and Important Wooden Interior Artifacts, and completed his study with Distinction Diploma in 1994.
In the same year of 1994 he has become an apprentice at privately owned company called 'Mebel-Retro' in Moscow, which specialized in Conservation and Restoration of antique furniture.
Have successfully completed his 6 years of apprenticeship at professional Restoration workshop, he decided to go to UK in order to gain more theoretical knowledge and practical skills in Conservation and Restoration field.
In 2000 he moved to Scotland, looking for work and meeting people in restoration-conservation field up there. Where he has been offered to work in a private workshop making some reproductions of excising antique furniture and improving his skills in Art of wooden marquetry. One of his marquetry works has been awarded First Prize in the local art competition in Haddington in 2001.
In September 2001 he joined a Diploma course in Conservation and Restoration of Antique Furniture, at West Dean College , West Sussex near Chichester.
After completing the course in July 2002 he went to Forffar , Scotland to Jeremy Gow Restoration workshop. Where he begun to dream about to start his own business in the future.
In September 2002 he joint MA course in Conservation and Restoration of Antique Furniture at BCUC, (Buckingham Chilterns University College) High Wycombe near London UK. Where he was introduced to Colin's J. Mantripp carving workshop. After a year of intense study and long hours of work side by side, in September 2003 he has been graduated at the University and granted a title Master of Art in Conservation and Restoration of Antique Furniture.
In November 2003 he came back to Moscow for a few months to to undertake an important project from one of Moscow's museums working for his former colleagues from 'Mebel-Retro' Restoration workshop.
Have had successfully completed a required project for 'Mebel-Retro', in February 2004 he moved to Belgium to set up his own professional restoration workshop.
From February 2004 till present he has established ‘Creative Mind in Golden Hands’ professional restoration-conservation workshop. Where he has obtained and successfully completed number of interesting and important projects among which is a long term gilding project that has took 4 years to accomplish.
Now Yuri is searching for new challenges in his profession and ready to look closely and discuss coming possibilities to join other professional workshops in other countries as well as share his unique knowledge in academic field of restoration-conservation and fine woodworking.
