Bianca van Baast - about Bianca and work - videoBy means of clothing, make-up, hair styles, and jewellery people try to distinguish themselves of one another. But is this the real person that we see? Or do all these things give a person the possibility to hide the real me? What induces a human being to hide itself behind a mask? And to what extent are we different from one another? What do you get if you omit all the things that can be used as a mask? Bianca tries to depict real people, completely stripped of accessories with only their essence remaining. This results in a rollercoaster of emotions. Her paintings portray tales full of contradictions. It tells about loneliness and togetherness, doubt and progression, violence and love, openness and hiding, struggle and consolation.
