Admirari homo (#1112)
The human being has always been an inspiration to Van Baast. With her paintings of naked human figures Bianca tries to draw the attention to the human psyche. By painting what she sees during her observation of people and its relations, she exposes the vulnerable side. This results in a tale full of contradictions. It tells about loneliness and togetherness, doubt and progression, violence and love, openness and hiding, fighting and consolation. The contrasts become even bigger when we look at the quiet compositions which exist out of one or several figures, without a clear surrounding, that often becomes immediately overshadowed by the colours that are used.
