Study Of The Life Model In Clay – Tuscany - Italy (#210)
The workshops will be focused, creative and intensive, for students to gain a good working understanding of the human form. We will work in clay directly, making clay sketches from the model and then working on a longer pose for more in depth study. There will be flexibility for students who wish to move from direct representational interpretation to creating their own expressive or abstracted interpretation of the human form.
The course is for eight days with ten nights accommodation. There will be 6 days intensive workshop working in clay and from a life model with a half day free for a museum visit in Florence. The 7th and 8th day will free for visits and site seeing while the clay sculptures speed dry ready for firing on the Friday night, so you can take the work home when you leave on the Saturday. Visits will be arranged to Florence, Sienna and San.Gimignano, with local wine tasting and local food (the travel expenses, museums and eating out will be an extra optional cost). All Tutoring, materials and firings included. As well as: Self-catering accommodation in a lovely old farmhouse Studio open for 12 hours a day (tutored classes with a model for 5 hours a day) Full home cooked Gourmet lunch each day. They are suitable for all students from absolute beginner to the more experienced. All students will be tutored on an individual basis, everyone works at their own pace. We will learn about the proportions, basic anatomy, rhythms and dynamics of the human figure. We will be studying the human form through life drawing, clay sketches, and short studies culminating in a three/four-day pose. We will aim to make one main focused piece of work, creating an in-depth observation and exploration of the human form. There will be flexibility for students who wish to move from direct representational interpretation to creating their own expressive or abstracted interpretation of the human form. Students will be working in clay without an armature. We will be using a fairly groggy crank or hand-building clay. The max size of the work will be determined by kiln sizes and transportation restrictions. We aim to have serious fun, to work hard and to extend our perceptions of the human form Learning to really look at what 'is' rather than what we 'think' it is.
