Workshop Stained glass (#351)
My name is Herbert Wildtham and I am a stained glass designer and maker. I started as a 13 year old boy learning the art of stained glass making with the firm Lenz in Gleisdorf (Austria). After I got my master grade I moved to the Netherlands. After working in several glass companies in different functions, I started in 1971 with my own special handcrafted stained glass company.
Now after 35 years working in the glass trade, I sold my company. Now I intent to start in our Gästehaus Klein Holland a workshop `Stained glass`, because I want to pass on the knowledge which I have acquired over the years. Stained glass also referred to as: leaded glass, lead lights, lead designs, leaded panel. This is a construction method quite like a jigsaw puzzle. Glass is cut to individual shapes which fit together to form a pattern, picture or design. Lead cames (lead strips produced for this purpose) are then used to join the pieces of glass to form a panel. Where the lead meets, solder is applied. The panel is then weather proofed and strengthened with lead light cement and polish. You will start a new journey into the wonderful world of stained glass …! Discover the magic of light through the fantastic colour with which you will be working. During this course you get acquainted with most important techniques in a skilled manner, such as cut, putting the glass in lead, half-measure sheathing, kitten etc.. In class you will be given demonstrations of glass cutting, the construction process with lead channel, how to solder your stained glass panel and finally cement/ grouting procedures. You will learn the technical basis skills of stained glass making. But beside that also much attention is given on the design Downstairs in our Gästehaus we have a glass work shop where we can give our lessons. Further details concerning the materials, prices and start of the workshop will follow. Email Margriet WildthamTell A Friend About This ListingGuestbook
