Introduction to portrait sculpture (#668)
This full day workshop is titled "Learning to let go: an introduction to portrait sculpture".
Aden Mc Leod is a very experienced sculptor and teacher who lives on the Atherton Tablelands. Originally from Canada, he has lived and worked in many countries, holding workshops and making bronze sculptures and life-like clay or bronze portraits of the people in towns that he has visited. Students will spend much of the day experimenting with the material and implementing techniques taught by Aden, seen here with one of the "characters" that he has just finished building. Because of the nature of the medium, students will be required to stand for some of the day, as they would at a portrait painting or life-drawing class. A reasonable level of fitness is required as students will be handling fairly large lumps of clay (good work-out for arm muscles?). During this portrait sculpture workshop you will learn 1. Something of the properties of clay 2. Clay handling 3. The proportions of the human head, neck and shoulders 4. Viewing the head from all angles as sculpture is three dimensional. 5. How to portray the character of your subject. Email Surprising Tropical Art discoveriesTell A Friend About This ListingOther Workshops by Surprising Tropical Art discoveries
