Michael has been teaching for over 40 years, has won many art prizes, and has established several galleries and art schools. In his work he tries to achieve the essence of human relationship, personal and spiritual values, and a balance between reality and illusion.

He can help each student find new and richer artistic expression, re-examining ideas, modes, and direction.
Use Michael’s tuition to guide you in your current work or in starting a new series using the environment of Byron Bay as a stimulus.

Attention will be on the handling of materials, whether charcoal, pastel, oil or acrylic or a combination.
Emphasis will be on the sensitive use of colour.
Demonstrations will be given to individual students when required.

We hope each student will complete at least three works.

In his own art practice, Michael’s consuming passion is to achieve the essence or soul of human relationships and personal values, while working in a ‘materialistic world’. He constantly challenges the balance between reality and illusion. He will help retreat participants explore their own “songs of innocence and experience” (in the words of William Blake), to draw out messages from their psyche into the material realm.
